Area of Study Three - Using Language to Persuade

This area of the course requires you to analyse how writers use language to persuade a specific audience. The focus is on media texts - pieces published in print newspapers, online or in other electronic media (radio and television). Important skills include knowledge of a range of persuasive language techniques and an ability to identify the target audience of a text.

The SAC task for this Area of Study requires you to analyse how the writers of three texts use language to persuade. You are required to compare and contrast the three texts in your essay.

The Examination may present you with one or more texts and may comprise written or visual language, or a combination of both. The 2009 Examination task was an online opinion piece with an accompanying illustration.
